Bad Blogger

So I have been totally useless and haven't updated in sooo long and I wish I had some excitement to update with but sadly not :)

The past couple of weeks have been taken up with various mundane activities.. work, home, lack of sleep .... the usual working mum kind of thing. Eden is her usual happy self at the moment and I can say that because she is currently sound asleep in her cot.. yes, I said cot. How amazing is that? Amazing for us at least because if you remember Eden wasn't sleeping in her cot at all.

Well I was completely exhausted and decided enough was enough and I knew we had to be vigilant. It had gotten to the stage where my poor husband was sleeping on the couch through the week while I shared the bed with Eden, she would constantly wake from her slumber looking for me, searching for my face in the dark. I had had it.

Now I know we got ourselves into this situation and there is only us who could sort it out, but having tried the CIO method, Pick Up Put Down nothing was working and it was so stressful for us and for her that we just continued on this cycle of tiredness....

Well I have to be honest and say we actually haven't changed all that much. Initially I set her cot up like our bed. I used one of the pillows from our bed so that she would be familiar with the smell and I layed her quiult out. As Eden doesn't have a favourite toy I decided to introduce a cuddly Winnie the Pooh in the hope that she would use it as a soother.

Up to now, and it is early days things are going ok... we are just being patient and let her get used to the new arangement. Tonight she fell asleep peacefully without looking for me and grabbing for me, she snuggled up to her teddy and dozed off. Don't get me wrong, nights are still difficult like last night she woke at 3.30am becasue her nappy had leaked and she only went back to sleep at 5am - so yes I am tired but I am glad she stayed in her cot and didn't end up in bed with me.

I never thought I would end up co-sleeping - but having said that I never thought I would get so happy, emotional and feel so much love for another human being.

Sleep deprivation is a small price to pay for the experince of motherhood.

Our Weekend

So last weekend my husband hit a "milestone" birthday (say no more)!! So I arranged us a nice weekend away in North Yorkshire. Just the 3 of us, no mobile phone signal and lots of peace and quite **bliss**

It was great cos Eden slept for over an hour on the way so I didn't have to worry too much about her getting bored and when we arrived at the cabin she was impressed because it was quite open plan and pretty baby friendly. Just what we needed!!

I was a bit nervous about this break. Eden had her MMR vaccine a week before we where due to leave and as the side effects don't always show until 7-10 days later it coincided with the holiday. I wouldn;t have minded too much but where we stayed, the nearest hospital was around 25 miles away -  not ideal if your child gets sick. Luckily for us though her symptoms stayed at bay and apart from a few "meltdowns" and irritability she was pretty good. oh, speaking of "meltdowns"- never had it until now bit she decided to use this time to start to have the "terrible two's" start early. Screaming fits if she cannot have something, if she is a little tired, etc etc etc... we have found that the best way to deal with it is by ignoring it, she soon stops, and most of the time it is more of a whine. I think I prefer the screaming to that whining sound though!

I cannot tell you how much this family time means to me and I love giving Eden these new experiences, even if she is too young to remember it now, we have so many pictures and videos to show her when she is older, it excites me so much. I have to say, it is hard work travelling with a toddler but so worth it.

SO does your little on have meltdowns??

Hysterical Baby

Eden just cracks me up. She has been sick for a while now since having the MMR vaccine. Today she had a rash and has been running a fever but still found time between naps to have a giggle.

What can I say, she is a trooper :)

Me and My Shadow

Sometimes it feels like I am always the one behind the camera the one behind the camera taking pictures of Eden with friends and relatives. So I reckon it is about time I indulged myself..

Without meaning to sound corny we are really growing closer, (if that is possible) as she is getting older and although I know she looks like Dad I can see a fun, silly personality emerging. I want to teach her that it's ok to laugh at yourself and you can laugh at other people, if they are laughing with you.

Still no walking yet, although we are seriously close. We go away for the weekend on Friday and I was hoping she would be taking some steps for that but no such luck.. all in her own time.

Have a great day!

Socialising

We had a free morning before Eden went into nursery and before I went to work. It is soooo much easier to just get up and take her out rather than sitting at home until lunch time and trying to entertain her/get her to nap. She hasn't been as into toys and playing lately and is easily distracted so I figured it would be a good idea to go and see my friend Jane, she has 2 kids. Lewis nearly 4, and Archie nearly 2 and we haven't seen them since Eden's birthday in November - so well overdue a visit!

Tired and cranky as Eden was she managed to hold it together until just before we left.

Baby Love

Bit of 'nana and TV

She is starting to really get interested in other kids now which is great but she still needs to get the whole sharing/not allowed to slap/kick thing down as poor Archie got a good old slap across the face. I know she isn't doing it in a malicious way but she needs to begin to learn that it's not allowed!!
